Jeff Wisely Gospel Sax Ministries
When did you start playing the sax?
I started playing alto sax when I was in the 4th grade at age 9.
Why the sax?
I have loved the saxophone ever since I laid my eyes on one many years ago. The sounds I heard from this instrument were incredible! I couldn't wait to get one and learn how to play it.
My favorite sax players:
The late Boots Randolph & the late Grover Washington jr, Jazz Saxophonist Denis Solee, and I enjoy some of the older sax players like Sonny Rollins, Charlie Parker, Dexter Gordon, John Coltrane to name a few.
Mentors:
My parents for all their support and listening to my sqeaks and squaks throughout the years. My first band teacher, Mr. Barney Mundy who always told me "practice makes perfect". Reggie Lafaye, perhaps better known as Mr.Gospel Sax. Thanks Reggie for taking the time to work with me when I was a kid.
Type of Sax/Mouthpiece:
A Vintage 1974 Selmer Mark VI Tenor Sax. Mouthpiece is Otto Link #8 facing with 2.5 Peter Ponzol Reeds. Back-up Sax is a Martin Richards mid-60's model.
